Live ballet

It’s no longer necessary to be in Stockholm to experience ballet at the Royal Opera. On December 16, Prisma, part of Mediatec Group, broadcast Chaikovky’s Nutcracker live in HD. As stated in a press release from the Royal Opera, this was the first time ballet was broadcast live to digital cinemas. In no less than 25 cinemas all over Sweden, and one in Norway, visitors were able to experience the two hour show, set in a classic Elsa Beskow style.

Although a premiere for ballet, this was not the first time Prisma performed live broadcasting from the Royal Opera. In February, 2008 visitors at a number of cinemas in Sweden could watch the opera Falstaff live. In November, Prisma carried out a similar HD broadcast of Bernardas house from Dramaten in Stockholm to 37 cinemas.

NHL Premier Games Stockholm 2008

NHL, the best hockey league in the world, arranged two kick-off games in the regular season schedule to be played in Globen Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The games were played between Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators in early October, 2008. In addition, Ottawa Senators played a friendly against Swedish hockey team Frölunda Indians in Scandinavium, Gothenburg.

Mediatec Dream Team was proud to be chosen for the host-broadcasting assignment. We are well prepared to handle productions like this one, and we do it on a more or less daily basis. In this case we supplied a production and technology solution for the client. We also provided Canal+ with two studio positions in the arena. Finally, we supplied display technology for the audience in Globen Arena.

We were of course excited to be involved in such a unique event. We were also pleased by the great reviews we got from the client, NHL Broadcast. In a report, it was stated that all technology and all crew were considered apt for any assignment in North America. Both parties agreed upon further collaborations.
