Everyone who has dreamt of singing an opera were given a chance by Stockholm’s Concert Hall together with Mezzo Soprano Malena Ernman.
The performance was produced by Mediatec and broadcast live in HD with 5.1 surround sound to over 35 cinemas in Folkets Hus and Parkers Digital cinema chain via HD2 and NOR 036. Over 3000 participants across the country sang along with excerpts from operas such as Carmen and The Magic Flute, a new record for a Swedish produced performance.
Mediatec also transmitted the performance to Gustavsberg Infirmary via broadband where 150 people joined in. We were also responsible for trailers and advertising inserts for our customers.
This was the first time a Singalong performance was broadcast in Sweden and it was so successful, the Concert Hall and main sponsor SEB are already planning further events.
Mediatec was a key partner to the Host Broadcaster when President Barack Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on October 10th, 2009. The company was involved in both the production of international coverage and in various nation’s individual coverage, assisting broadcasters with stand-up positions and live reports to their home countries.
Mediatec OB-6 covered all the action outside and inside the Grand Hotel, where 10 000 people with torches greeted Mr. Barack Obama and his wife Michelle on the balcony of the Nobel suite. We also covered the banquet held in the Mirror Hall in the hotel.
On behalf of the European Broadcasting Union, Mediatec build up a rights holder’s room at the SAS-hotel in downtown Oslo, receiving the international signal through a local media bank then distributing the signal to a number of editing suites and play out facilities. We also provided a stand-up position connected to the EBU-office. In addition, we provided several stand-up positions with uplink facilities outside Oslo City Hall where Barack Obama received his diploma and prize.
Our vehicle, with a 45 meter telescope mast and remote controlled camera, was positioned right at the heart of the action in Oslo city centre close to the Royal Palace.
The 63rd Frankfurt International Motorshow has recently ended. Over the Press Days, Mediatec supplied a complete press conference solution for Volvo Cars with no less than one 3-camera and 6 VB channel production in full HD, three simultaneous picture productions, prompter system, PA system, speaker lighting and show lighting comprising of twenty four VL 3000 and six VL 2500 adjustable lights. We handled the press conferences using only 10 people - a uniquely low number for such a production and the result of multi-tasking within the group. Another noteworthy point concerning our role at Frankfurt was the supply of our in-house developed distribution system for programs, images and sound for journalists at the event.
For the new Media Wall in Volvo’s exhibition space, Mediatec supplied seven LED screens comprising Chromatek 4 mm and Barco Olite 612. On top of this, Mediatec also supplied seven hundred Olite 510 Pucks for the flooring and complete HD broadcasting technology for all screens. These comprised a Medialon Control System controlling four Doremi HD servers and two Hippotizer media servers.
But it doesn’t end there. For Volvo’s exhibition space, Mediatec also supplied 520 m of trussing, 40 motors, 254 daylight lamps, 1200 m2 of fabric, a D&B speaker system and a brand new creative solution involving roof channels that hid the large amount of adjustable lights and speakers used for press conferences.
In the fall of 2008, Mediatec Broadcast were approached by Viasat with an inquiry to set up a new sports channel. Since 2005, we already had SportN up and running from Bjerke. The new channel was to be a sister channel with the name Viasat Sport. Could we look into this?
We could. It soon became clear that it would be difficult, or even impossible, to reach a satisfactory solution using the same control room as SportN. It also became clear that Viasat wanted a higher degree of automation for the new channel, thus reducing the need for crew.
The solution was Control Room 6, which is a compact two-channel playout room with one large broadcast position, one smaller and one technical control position. Both broadcast positions are needed for situations when, for example, two Champions League games are played at the same time. The automation is indeed high, with obvious facilities for manual controlling. Control Room 6 is also well prepared for upgraded technology in the future.
Prisma, part of Mediatec Group, supplied the technical facilities for the transmissions of the World Cup finals in cross-country for National Swedish Television (SVT) in Falun. News of the week was the 400 meters wire cam extending over the whole stadium. Never before has such a length of wire cam been used in an SVT production.
”It is a progress of our system that makes it possible for us to use this length, and the result has exceeded our expectations.” says Axel Engström at Prisma.
Mediatec Group is one of Europe’s largest corporations working with technical solutions for event and television productions. Our idea is to supply the right technology and to make sure everything works.
